Fundamental Concept of Wu Wei
Wu Wei means “non-action,” but it implies something much deeper. The term is better used to describe accomplishing something with minimal, or no effort. The Tao in its regular course does nothing for the sake of just doing, and so all that needs to be done is never left undone.
The Tao moves without intention or desire, it just continues on its unrelenting way. Like water making its way from a source, high up in the mountains, meandering along toward its final destination, the sea. Without intention or desire, the flowing water certainly can do work as it goes. It can power hydroelectric plants, creating electricity. Indomitably and unrelentingly, water can even accomplish things on the grandest of scales, like carving out the Grand Canyon!
